Chaplin ridicules Hitler and the anti semitic Nazi regime adopting the dual role of a Jewish barber and a dictator. Writing, directing and providing the music, Charles Chaplin said that at the time obviously he didn't know the full horror of the Nazis and if he had have done the film would have been even different still.
